On the cusp of dusk,
a coolness washed
around her waist.
Whispers on the waves,
sang a song
that called her home.
Farewell harsh land,
for a creature of the sea,
in her heart she be.

It is strange how most of the poems that I write about the sea contain mermaids. I can’t even swim so it’s not that I wish to be a mermaid myself, nor do I have a particular fondness for them. I do however, believe that they once existed. Perhaps, for me anyway, a mermaid who finds her way back home, to a place where she feels she belongs is just a really nice ending. I hope to find the place where I truly belong one day.
Finding a place where you truly belong is no small feat. It’s a beautiful process indeed. Loved this poem, Michelle ❤️
